Deselection Procedure for Nevada's
Federal Depository Libraries
Before compiling your list of deselected items, check GPO's Instructions to Depository Libraries, Chapter 4: Maintenance. This chapter outlines the requirements for retaining depository publications and describes recommended procedures for withdrawing publications. Also check GPO's Superseded List and follow its guidelines. Publications and other tangible information products received through the Federal Depository Library Program remain the property of the U.S. Government, so it is important to adhere to the Instructions regarding withdrawal and disposal of any depository items.
Send Alisa Huckle a list of the deselected items (775-682-5592, E-mail alisah@unr.edu). The list should include SuDoc number and title as well as holdings (volume/numbers/dates). Do not include superseded items.
Please allow UNR four weeks to respond. (Alisa usually responds right away, but may need extra time if she’s on vacation or if she has an unusually heavy workload).
If Alisa doesn’t respond by the time limit, or if she tells you we don’t need the items, you are free to discard the publications according to Instructions to Depository Libraries.
Note: In addition to sending a list of offered publications to UNR, you may send copies of the list to the email list of Nevada Depository Libraries (nvdocs@unr.edu) and the National Needs and Offers List. If you post items on the national list, note that UNR's requests have priority over requests from other depository libraries. Also, when posting to the national list, you must retain the publications for at least two months in order to give others a chance to request them.
Alisa will call or E-mail if the an item you've offered is needed in the regional collection. Please send requested publications to the address below:Alisa Huckle
