Scope and Content

John Quincy Adams was born in Illinois, and learned the bricklayer trade from his father. He moved to Utah with his family in 1850; and then relocated to Carson Valley, Nevada 1853. Together with his brother Rufus he ran farming and stockraising businesses and kept a hotel. He manufactured the brick used in construction of U. S. Mint in Carson City and court house in Genoa, Nevada

The collection contains chiefly receipts and bills concerning John and Rufus Adams' ranching, stockraising, hotel, and brickmaking enterprises in Genoa and Carson Valley, Nevada. Also included are some correspondence and Adams family genealogical research and papers dealing with Genoa and Carson Valley, 1874-1896.
