Scope And Content

The records of Diana M. Glomb consist of materials created or collected by her during her four-year term as a Nevada State Senator and a small amount of her campaign materials. They date from 1989-1995 and consist of 2.5 cubic feet of materials. With the exception of her campaign contributions file, there are no restrictions on use of the collection. Written permission of Senator Glomb is required to view the contributions file.

The collection is arranged by legislative session, roughly chronologically, beginning with several folders related Glomb’s campaign against Erik Beyer. In addition to paper materials there are also cassette and video tapes of campaign ads and talk show appearances.

The legislative sessions of 1991 and 1993 are documented by copies of bills sponsored by Glomb as either a prime or secondary sponsor. Also included are reviews of other legislative action, bill explanations, and legislative fiscal and appropriations reports. Of particular note are folders pertaining to issues of interest to Glomb, including maternal and child health, and other public health issues.

Beginning in the early 1990s disciplinary proceedings were instituted against Judge Jerry Carr Whitehead of the Washoe County District Court. Whitehead was accused of engaging in “ex parte” communications with one side of a case in the absence of the other. He was also accused of changing the custody of a child without a hearing. The Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline, chaired by Guy Shipler, instituted an investigation which eventually embroiled the Nevada Supreme Court, Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, and the Las Vegas Review Journal.

These proceedings were costly and lead the Commission Chair to request additional funding for the Commission from the Interim Finance Committee of the Legislature in 1994. Senator Glomb was a member this Committee and two folders in this collection document this important case in Nevada jurisprudence.

The collection includes photographs and video tapes of Glomb’s campaign; these visual materials have been transferred to the photographic archives of the Special Collections Department.
