Basque Sheep Herders of the American West
A Photographic Documentary
By William A. Douglass and Richard H. Lane
University of Nevada Press, 1985
Frontismatter
When anthropologist-photographer Richard Lane was photographing life in the sheep camps of northeastern Nevada in 1969, it was clear that the saga of the Basque sheepherders in the American West had entered its final phase and was in danger of passing from the scene without leaving any kind of systematic visual record. Their lives are documented in this book by Lane's photos and text written by William Douglass, founder of the Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno.
