- What is the SFX Find It @UNR Service?
- The SFX Find It @ UNR Service provides a seamless link between the citations you retrieve in database searches and the full-text of articles cited. See our About SFX page for a graphic illustration and more details.
- Which UNR Libraries online databases have SFX Find It @ UNR enabled?
- SFX Find It @ UNR enabled databases are marked with
[yellow ball icon] in the database
list. Not all databases available at UNR can be enabled to use
the SFX Find It @ UNR service due to technical reasons.
However, we are enabling this service for all databases when it is possible. What is also worth mentioning is that we have enabled Google Scholar to use this service. But to display the Find It @ UNR links in search results, you need to set Institutional Access in Google Scholar Preferences to University of Nevada, Reno.
- Why don't I see the
or
button in a database that you say is SFX Find It @ UNR enabled? - There are three likely reasons:
- You have JavaScript turned off in your browser. Turn it back on.
- Some databases may not display the button on search result pages. You may need to go on to the full record of the article to see the button.
- Some databases may display a text link rather than the buttons. For example, the database of Bibliography of Native North Americans displays a text link that reads SFX.
- Why doesn't the SFX Find It @ UNR
menu appear when I click on the
or
button? - SFX Find It @ UNR utilizes pop-up windows. Disabling any pop-up blocker program that you may be using should solve the problem.
- When I click on the full-text link, I sometimes only get to the journal's home page or the table-of-contents page. Why?
- SFX Find It @ UNR will get you as close to the full-text as it can, given the structure of the publisher's site and how predictable the "link-to" syntax for the resource is. Sometimes you will go straight to the full-text. Sometimes the best SFX Find It @ UNR can do is to take you to the table of contents or the journal's home page, and then you will have to navigate the publisher's site yourself to get to the full-text. Essentially, a full-text link in the SFX Find It @ UNR menu means that full-text is available, but you may have to do some of the work of getting to it yourself.
- When I click on the full-text link, I get an error or "not found" message. Why?
- There are a couple of likely reasons for this:
- If you are looking for an article in the latest issue of a journal or a very recent article, it is likely that the publisher has not loaded the article to their database yet. If another full-text link is available, try that link and see if the article you need is available from that source. If not, check the library catalog for availability of the article in print or check the online full-text link at a later date to see if the article has become available.
- There may be a problem at the publisher end.
In either case, please report the linking error to us so we can troubleshoot the problem and fix it in a timely manner. You may click on the Report a problem link in the Additional Services section on the SFX Find It @ UNR menu to report an error. - Why are there multiple full-text link options for the same article?
- Sometimes full-text access is available from multiple sources, such as the publisher, intermediate full-text content provider, or full-text databases. So we provide links to all of them. If one source is temporarily unavailable, you will have the option of using another.
- Why doesn't a full-text link always appear as an option?
- There are three likely reasons for this:
- The article is not available in online format.
- The UNR Libraries do not have an online subscription to the journal title in which the article appears.
- The article appears in an online journal which is not compatible with the SFX Find It @ UNR service.
When there is no full-text links on the SFX Find It @ UNR menu, check the UNR Libraries catalog to see if the article is available in either print or online format. A link to the UNR Libraries catalog ALWAYS displays in the SFX Find It @ UNR menu. - If I already have a article citation, can I use SFX Find It @ UNR to link to the article?
- Yes. Use the Citation Finder form to enter your citation information and get an SFX Find It @ UNR menu for linking options. Citation Finder does not search every journal to which the library has access, but it's worth a try and may save you time!
