Ingenta Alert Service
What are the alerting services available on Ingenta?
- The Ingenta Alert Service allows you to custom design your own list of journal titles (up to 50) from the more than 29,000 journal titles in the Ingenta database and have their tables of contents automatically sent to your e-mail address when new issues enter the Ingenta database.
- You can also store up to 25 search strategies (called search alerts in Ingenta) that will automatically be searched weekly against new additions to the IngentaConnect database.
- The University of Nevada, Reno University Libraries provides the
Ingenta Alert Service at no cost to campus users.
How do I subscribe to the alerting services on Ingenta?
- Connect to the Ingenta database at http://www.ingentaconnect.com. Note: You must subscribe to the Ingenta Alert Service at a computer with Internet access on campus to receive the service.
- Select the "Sign up here" link located on the right of the screen. Fill in the registration form with your personal information, pick a user name and password, and then select the "continue" button at the bottom of the screen. Continue the steps to finish your registration.
- To use your alerting functions, see the options under Manage My Ingenta on the right side of the screen
- To add search alerts, using the "quick search" box, run some searches on your topic. When you are finished searching, select "Search alerts" under Manage My Ingenta. Select the "Search History" tab. Mark the searches you want to save and use the drop-down menu to save as individual items. Next, go to the "Saved Searches" tab and mark the items you want to add to the alerts. Use the drop-down menu to "Create Alert". You can do more than one search before going to the "Search History" section and save all the relevant searches at once.
- To add journal titles for table of contents alerting, select
the "New Issue Alerts". Select the "add" tab to get the search options
for locating journal titles. Run searches for particular journal titles
or run keyword searches to discover journal titles in the database.
Check the box(es) next to the desired title(s), then save the selections
by using the drop-down menu and choosing "My Search Alerts" to add the
title(s) to your table of contents alerts.
How can I access the full-text of journal articles available in Ingenta from the e-mail alerts?
- It depends on the journal title. If the University Libraries
subscribes to the journal and it is available through Ingenta, you
should be able to click on the link sent to you in the alerts message
and access the full text. If you are connecting to Ingenta from off
campus and full-text is available, you must be authenticated as a UNR
user to access the full-text. Please see the
authentication instructions
on the Library's Website, including the instructions about how to modify
the Ingenta link so you can be authenticated. Titles that are not
available in Ingenta may be available online from other sources, so
check the
Library's Online Catalog
for access to those journal titles.
