Fee-Based Information Services

The Business and Government Information Center (BGIC) at the University of Nevada, Reno Libraries invites you to use its fee-based information services. The BGIC combines the UNR Libraries' business reference collection with one of the most comprehensive government information resources in the western United States. The BGIC's information services can help you and your business save time, money and effort.

The BGIC provides basic reference assistance free of charge (onsite, via telephone, & e-mail). 

More extensive services are available, such as customized information retrieval and document delivery according to an established fee schedule. Research performed by the Business and Government Information Center staff includes search, retrieval and delivery of published or online information requested by clients. 

Note: Fee-based service is usually not appropriate for students who need to gather information for term papers or other course assignments. We believe that finding, evaluating and using information are intellectual skills that are important for students to practice and master. As such, it is more appropriate for students to obtain library reference assistance in meeting course-related information needs, rather than to request the fee-based reference service.

Business hours of the fee-based information service are 8:00 am Through 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Most requests for documents not held by the UNR Libraries are filled within six days. Most research is completed within three to five days.

To ensure your privacy, all work performed by the BGIC staff is kept in full confidence. Client names are not revealed, nor is any area of interest or research.

Disclaimer: With the exception of delivering specifically cited publications, the Business and Government Information Center does not accept or perform comprehensive searches for legal information, e.g., to determine patentability of an invention or eligibility of a trademark for federal registration. Likewise, the staff do not perform comprehensive medical literature searches, genealogical research, or searches in public record offices (i.e., for licenses or vital records). While every effort is made to understand and meet the requests of clients, information delivered carries no warranty of suitability for a client's intended purpose.

Service Fees

Information will be delivered after payment is received. Payment may be made in cash, by check (payable to the Board of Regents), VISA, DISCOVER, MASTERCARD, or by pre-established deposit account. 

Patents (including mailing charge) $7.50 per patent

Patents (fax delivery) $12.50 per patent

Photocopies (per item or document) $5.00, + $.20/page and applicable Copyright Clearance Center fees

Fax delivery $10.00, + $.20/page and applicable Copyright Clearance Center fees

Delivery by U.S. Postal Service $2.00

Delivery by Federal Express, UPS or other courier amount charged by provider

Online computer database search $25.00 Service charge online provider's charges added

Customized information research $60.00 per hour (half hour minimum) 3rd party charges added

Surcharge for rush service (for requests submitted by noon, Monday through Friday - rush requests are accepted at the discretion of the BGIC staff, depending upon available staffing and resources) $7.50
